Spitbank Fort in the Solent

One of two forts guarding the Solent Estuary at the entrance to Portsmouth dockyard and commercial, Spitbank was completed, after much prevarication, in 1878. Although armed to the gills, never an angry shot was fired from this fort. It now offers Sunday lunches, accommodation, and is available as a meeting venue.
